Interview with excello.tomahawk

Posted on 29/05/2010 by geminirius

With the launch of the brand new excello.net portal we sat down with Alberto 'tomahawk' Duarte, Managing Director for Excello, to find out the reasons behind a new image and what everyone can expect from Excello from now on.

Excello just released a new website, tell us why.

  • Excello wants to expand its brand and specially the concepts that already work such as the Excello Cup. The old website had limited features which meant that projects other than the teams could not advance as how we wanted them to. Excello have needed a new site for quite awhile. We were able to get ahold of the excello.net domain – which let us work on our  brand out of the ‘team’ that was already in the domain name so now, more than ever, we wanted to grow. Luckily we were able to get a strong coder in  Samuel that enabled us to release the new site and keep updating it regularly for now on.

How will this affect the Excello teams?

  • We are not closing the door on our teams, however, at this point in time our major focus will go towards our other projects and the brand itself. This does not mean that we will not add any teams in the meanwhile, but they are not our top priority at this point in time. Excello started as Team Excello back in 2004 and we are not ready to give up on teams just yet.

How will this affect the famous Excello tournaments, what new opportunities will the new website present?

  • The website will enable us to do more types and formats of tournaments which will mean that those will expand a lot in the upcoming months. We have done over 200 Excello Cups in the past and want that to look like a small number within a year. The new platform and the fact that the website will have regular updates creates a solid way for players to compete for prizes without any hassle and that is what we want to see happening.

How will the new site affect the Excello followers?

  • With the launch of the new site we want to reward our loyal followers which means that, on top of the tournaments, we will have regular contests and giveaways as well as a monthly points (XLOS) system that rewards the most active users in the site.
We do not expect the followers to stay tuned to the website if there is nothing to see so we will be adding manpower to the content staff in order to have up-to-date information on everything related to eSports.

Usually new sponsors or partners are disclosed along with a website, is Excello announcing anything?

  • As we expand our brand to more areas that also means that we will have more advertising opportunities. With that said, we are in touch with several potential partners and will surely have some announcements soon but not during the site launch. The site launch is where the new features are announced and the already existing partners, such as ZOWIE GEAR and Bigfoot Networks, are cherished.
