No counter-strike as official eSport in China

Posted on 18/06/2010 by razvan

The Chinese counter-strike team Tyloo.raw confirms that they will not be attending the ESWC 2010 Finals.

Two days ago Tyloo.raw have made an announcement on ZOTOB.org stating that they will not be able to attend the ESWC Grand Finals in Paris, France this summer.

This decision came after Ruidashuachuan Inc, the governing body of eSports in China, decided not to support and fund Tyloo.raw's trip anymore, while the main reason for this was that counter-strike is not considered as a true eSports by Chinese government.

Beijing Ruidashuachuan Inc will only be able to send players at ESWC from FIFA, Warcraft III and DotA, these games beeing considered the official eSports in China.

There was a second chance for Tyloo.raw to attend ESWC with paying the trip themselves, but as they are not able to do this, it is now fully confirmed that the Korean team WeMade FOX will be the only Asian team competing at ESWC.

Damn! Hehe for Fifa.
But this is really a strange scenario, does anybody know why they decided this (make CS not a true eSport)?
